Bipolar Disorder is one of the more commonly known mental health issues in our culture, and yet a lot of people either do not understand what it is, or go by distorted notions gleaned from media, entertainment, social media, or word of mouth and anecdotes. Many people even currently today are still operating with out-of-date or incomplete information and understanding of the pathology. Those who have it are frequently misdiagnosed or go undiagnosed, because of these misunderstandings not only amongst laypeople but some relevant professionals such as teachers, school administrators, law enforcement officers, or employers, for example. They can live their lives well into adulthood, enduring potentially unnecessary symptoms that can disrupt their lives.

We hope to dispel the bad data and help people to clear up their understanding of this pathology for the benefit of themselves, or possibly someone in their circle who may need their help and understanding.

Tonight, we will discuss:

  1. The History of Bipolar Disorder
  2. An Overview of Bipolar Disorder Today
  3. Myths and Misconceptions about Bipolar Disorder
  4. Suggestions for Coping & Mitigating Symptoms.

We'll start off the evening with some topic-relevant Classic Rock played by Dr. Mathis, followed by Classic Rock trivia in "The Rock & Roll Shrink Recalls," followed by our topic discussion.

Please follow our bi-weekly, Wednesday evening shows, at 11 pm EST/EDT. We will have a new topic for you in two weeks!
