By request of one of our followers, tonight’s topic is about parents navigating how transparent and open to be with their children, when it comes to their mental health issues.

The majority of adults these days tend to be at least somewhat more forthright with family members when it comes to their health.

But even if they are open, sharing these things with minor children is a subjective judgment call, based on what the child can handle. There are many mental health issues that could be manageable for a child to process. But some pathologies can be complex to understand or evoke anxiety or other fears in children.

Tonight, we will discuss:

  1. Should A Parent Tell Their Child About Their Mental Health Issues, and Why?
  2. How to Discuss A Parent’s Mental Health with their Child
  3. Approaching Different Levels of Parental Mental Health Issues
  4. Resources for Talking to your Children about your Mental Health

We'll start off the evening with some topic-relevant Classic Rock played by Dr. Mathis, followed by Classic Rock trivia in “The Rock & Roll Shrink Recalls,” a moment of rock music trivia stories, as recounted by Dr. Mathis, followed by our topic discussion.
