The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Seith Mann of VH1's The Breaks.

In VH1’s new scripted series The Breaks, three friends united by their love of hip-hop try to make their mark on New York’s competitive music industry in 1990, a time when the city is riddled with crime and divided by racial prejudice. Inspired by Dan Charnas’s critically acclaimed book The Big Payback: The History of the Business of Hip-Hop, The Breaks is a gritty, authentic take on the thrilling early days of an inner-city art form that would soon become the world’s predominant pop culture.

Brilliant and ambitious Nikki (Afton Williamson) has abandoned plans for law school to intern at the city’s premier hip-hop management company, Fouray Management. Her boyfriend David (David Call) rejects his record-executive father’s legacy and fights for airtime for hip-hop on the city’s leading R&B station. Aspiring producer DeeVee (Mack Wilds) courts Ahm (Antoine Harris), a drug dealer with a lyrical gift whose talent could bring them all to the next level — if he doesn’t self destruct and take them down with him. They are about to discover that lives can be ruined as fast as legends can be born.
