WHAT IS TIME?

• It is the passing of life.

• It is your most valuable

resource.

• It is unique because, unlike

other resources, it cannot be

saved or stored.

• It is the same for everyone.

• It does not discriminate. We

all have 24 hours each day.

ACCOMPLISHING MORE WITHOUT WORKING HARDER

In his book “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, " Stephen Covey developed a

model for accomplishing more with increased satisfaction about what has been

achieved. One significant key is to understand two words or factors that define

any activity:

• URGENT: It usually means it requires immediate attention. It is now. It is

generally visible. Urgent activities press on us. Often they are popular with

others. They may even be fun to do. But so often they are unimportant. They

might be reactive.

• IMPORTANT: If something is important, it contributes to your mission, values

and high-priority goals. Important activities have to do with results. Those

important matters that are not urgent require more initiative and more proactivity.

EFFECTIVE USE OF TIME

Our natural tendency is to spend most of our time on urgent issues

that are not necessarily important (Quadrant 1). Most managers spend

the majority of their time in Quadrants 1 and 3. Effective stewards of

time spend most of their time and energy in Quadrant 2.
