Brothers and Sisters, a brother in the chat room last week suggested marriage is the problem and men and women perhaps should not get married in the first place. As the week continued and we reflected and meditated on this comment we concluded such statements and beliefs are the doctrines of demons and reject what good common sense would tell us. An examination of the problems most prevalent in marriage reveals the error of marital participants as the root cause of marital problems “even” when the participants meant good about decisions made. After God gave the blessing of a child to Abraham and Sarah – Sarah got the grand ideal to help God and offered her servant Haggai as a surrogate mother for Abraham to fulfill God’s blessing – the problem was it was not God’s plan and although God blessed the loins of Ishmael as promised to Haggai, it did not eliminate the envy and jealousy that existed and exist this day between the sons of Abraham.
God ordained and sanctioned marriage (Genesis 2:24) and gave man the responsibility to lead and manage this relationship. Even before Abraham, Adam failed in his responsibility to lead versus follow and allowed Eve to bring the seed of disobedience into the human race. Some argue how could God allow such things to happen and fail to see the significance of God giving humans free will and determination. Otherwise we would be only robots and tools to use as God pleases. God like any parent derives greater joy when his children obey and receive the full blessings of obedience (Ephesians 6)
