On the fourth day of Write Stuff Christmas, Parker gave to me:

theological thoughts about speculative fiction ... angelic wars ... curses and vows ... and a hand of steel

Most speculative fiction authors focus on the worldbuilding, plot points, character development and bringing the entire novel or series together in a wonderful fell swoop, guaranteed - we hope! - to leave the reader gasping with our brilliance.

Have we ever thought about what some of the theological aspects of our speculative fiction? For example, contrasting His Dark Materials with Lord of the Rings, we have two different worldviews and the authors of those books uses the vehicle of fiction to explore their theological foundations. As speculative fiction authors, what are the subtle or overt themes you embed into your work? Do you try to shy away from any theology? Is that a good idea?

Join me as we continue our twelve days of Write Stuff Christmas as I chat with author L. G. McCary about the theological considerations of speculative fiction on Friday, December 16th at 7:00 PM Eastern time. You can listen in at 646-668-8485.
