Community Violence

Community Violence is a major public health problem. Over one one third of our youth accross the country between the ages of 10 to 16 are victimes of violence. The impact of community violence can cause a great impact on many.

Community violence is a complex term that has been used to refer to a wide range of events including riots, sniper attacks, gang wars, drive by shootings, workplace assaults, terrorist attacks, torture, bomboings, war, ehtnic cleansing and wide spread, sexual, physical and emotional abuse.

There have been several distinctions made as it refers to abuse between adults, violence amongst children or one witnessing violence. 

Community Violence is a type of trauma that is different from other types of trauma. Although there are warnings signs for some trauma.Community Violence usually happens without warning and comes as a sudden and terrifying shock.
