While growing up in the church I mcan often recall being told that I was to love thy enemies. The problem is I never really knew what that meant as I did not see that love demonstrated within the church, in my home nor in my community. I can only speak for myself however I can recall my mother refering to individuals as evil doers. Then as I became an adult and engaged in conflicts with others I then even more confused.
Today we live not only in a society where many individuals do not get along. Then we go to church and find that individuals run into more battles with individuals with whom they declare as an enemy or a hater.
What makes an individual become ones enemy? Not everyone who is not a friend is therefore an enemy. An enemy can be considered an opponent. Their goals are opposed to out another. So what is one to do as a christian if we are to love thy enemy?
When it comes to showing love many struggle with that. If such is a problem with someone who we say that we love. You can imagine that it could be a bigger challenge with one whom we may dislike, have been betrayed by or have have been put in a situations where one may feel spitefully used. Loving our enemies is an ideal for human beings of any spiritual background.
