The human emotion "envy" is largely considered a negative, undesirable behavior - one that we wish we didn't have to experience, yet we all do. It doesn't feel good to be envious. When we do have feelings of envy our natural inclination is to disguise them - we don't want others to see this "ugly" side of ourselves.

Today's special guest, Josh Gressel, Ph.D., author of the  book, Embracing Envy: Finding the Spiritual Treasure in Our Most Shameful Emotion proposes that while envy is the "Achilles heel" of our ego, it is also a door to our "personal underworld" that when opened can lead us to our personal riches.

In Dr. Gressel's career as a psychologist he has attempted to integrate spiritual and psychological truths. He researched the topic of envy using that integration, and wrote Embracing Envy based on his belief that we would not have been created to experience this emotion unless it served an important purpose. He believes that envy forces us to admit to ourselves that we are capable of more than what we presently are.

Today Dr. Gressel is here to share what he has learned about envy and to help us understand the upside of our own.
