Have you ever looked in the mirror & didn't like the person you saw in the mirror? Today's topic is called... Lost in the Mirror! We're going to talk about dealing with Low Esteem & Insecurity!
A few things that could cause low self esteem: 1) Univolved/Absent Parents in a child's life. 2) Competition within family. 3) Negative Peers. 4) Trauma. Abuse (Physical, Emotional, Sexual) can cause feelings of shame, blame or guilt. A person may feel that he or she did something to deserve the abuse that he or she was not worthy of the respect, love & care of the abuser. 5) Body size. Many practice unhealthy behaviors in an effort to lose weight, vomiting, smoking, using laxatives. When puberty comes around & our bodies start to change, they don't see what we see on the t.v. magazine or music videos. This can lead to feeling unattractive or not good enough. 6) Failure of a Relationship: Some people base their value or worth within a marriage or courtship & when it doesn't work out, they change how they view or feel about themselves. They allow that failed relationship to define who they are. Another is parenting. If a child does not live up to their potentials or expectations, the parent blames themselves. 7) Empty Nest. When a child goes off to college or get married. 8) Unrealistic Goals 9) Past Bad Choices 10) Negative Thought Patterns. Know that you're not defined by what happened to you or what people said about you.
No longer look at yourself how others treat you, what they said about you or through your own eyes, but through the eyes of God (through His Word)!
