MY Flag returned home from the LCI (L) 1091 Museum in Samoa CA. after a misadventure of wrong address, Today due to earlier delay in scheduling that same flag was flow over the RMS Queen Mary in Long Beach California. It is quite ironic that two misadventures lead to one great adventure. Before I get too carried away I must offer my heartfelt thanks to Don Reed and the crew of LCI (L) 1091 and to Commodore Everette Hoard and Chief Officer Chris Pearly of the Queen Mary for their taking time out their busy schedules to help satisfy my Flag flying adventures. Armando Sanchez went to Long Beach to visit the Queen Mary to witness my flag being flown there. I invited him because I knew he is one the few people I know who truly appreciates these mini adventures. The living history of that ship is incredible and one really gets that sense in just walking around. While raising the flag the command was given to sound the ship’s horn that was impressive.

We were given a short tour of the ship which included the radio room (now Ham Radio W6RO shack) I did not bring my radio so I could talk with them and get my QSL Card but that will be another adventure for another day. I did however tie my flag adventures in with Ham Radio by getting my flag picture taken there. One major highlight of the day was we prerecorded a 20 minute podcast in the original Captains stateroom. Enclosed in that stateroom is a VIP guest record book that dates back to the 1930’s. That book has been signed by some very famous and historic people. The two latest additions are Armando F. Sanchez and I. That alone was the million dollar minute.

The stories that the Commodore and Mr. Chris Pearly were telling us were fascinating and I hope that we captured them on my short podcast.

THANK YOU ALL again
