Why do men think independent women won't take them serious?

It never seems to amaze me with this ever changing dating scene.  Men will run form succcessfulw women or try to use them.  Why can't we be seen as equal?  Why do men think women that are attractive can't be taken serious?  These are questions i need answers too.
