Before you can be deceived by someone else you first have to have fooled yourself. Those that would take advantage of you count on the fact that you 'want the best of it', which makes it easy for them to separate you (the rube) from your money; or in the case of salvation, your eternal life. Self-honesty is incredibly difficult to aquire, because it means seeing yourself as God sees you, warts and all. Those that believe that God loves them unconditonally are those that 'want the best of it', and are not willing to admit that there might be something wrong with the way they view not only the world that is in view, but also the world that is unseen, the spiritual realm.
