I used to sell tires.
Seriously.
And then one day I was fired for being a wise guy. Having no clue where to go or what to do next, a friend suggested Massage Therapy school. I was always instinctively reaching out to help others so it kind of made sense, but now clients would be happy to see me and leave with a smile – not always the case in retail.
My anatomy instructors spoke of the linear tangible aspects, which appeased my logic-based Star Trek-infused mind, and my Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) instructors spoke of the intangibles: energy; aura; meridians; etc., which annoyed me to no end. I didn't believe a word of it. My background was Western – my father the pharmacist was always there with a magic pill that seemed to take away any pain. Meds and surgeries were all I thought was necessary for healing. But now I was hearing about healing through pressure points by moving "chi" with my fingers to remove blockages and relieve pain and illness? Both within myself and for others?!?
Yeah, right.
