People get married and stay married not because one or both of them is without faults, and not because one or both of them is willing to suffer in miserable silence, but because both of them have agreed to work on their faults so that neither of them has to suffer in miserable silence. In a marriage, when one or both parties are unwilling or unable to recognize their faults and strive to correct them, and neither party wishes to simply suffer through it, the marriage will eventually end in divorce. Counseling helps couples recognize causes for friction and work together to remove them. It is not a blaming session, and yet, many couples refuse to go to a counselor for fear that they will be blamed and reprimanded as being the problem. Marriage counselor Howard Williams explains the process of helping couples return to a state of love and trust in each other in order to save their marriage.
