Katherine Dunham was more than just a dancer. She was an antheopologist who preserved African history and culture through dance. She was a teacher, a mentor and a role model to so many who went on to excel in this ancient yet modern art form. Laurie Goux of Spirit Wing Dance company tells us today about an upcoming special tribute to Katherine Dunham on Wednesday June 22, 2016, at the Harold Washington College at 400 S. State Street and the free dance classes that will be given by Ruby Streate at University of Chicago, 929 E. 60th Street to aspiring performers who wish to learn the legendary Katherine Dunham Technique.
