The Foster Care system was supposedly designed to help children in to be placed in a safe environment when their parents are facing a crisis, whether that crisis be a breakdown in physical or mental health, causing dysfunction in the household. But too many families have had children taken away for questionable reasons and the children experienced more trauma in foster care by abusive or neglectful foster parents. Some adults are still going throught the nightmare of recovery from childhood abuse in foster homes. Are caseloads simply to heavy for social workers to properly manage? How are so many children fallng through the cracks? Why are so many families in economic distress being penalized by losing their children? Are the rights of children being violated? How do we fix a broken system?
