Final Call Editor Brother Richard Muhammad shares his insight on manhood and the importance of men and women learning how to be mutually supportive in order to build strong families and communities. What is a strong man? Can a woman be strong without negating the authority and leadership abilities in the man? Are strong black men seen as "threatening?" How can men and women learn to cooperate and be mutually supportive? The North Lawndale Sesquicentennial Committee (NLSC) will host "Women of North Lawndale" on Wednesday March 27, 2019, with its second monthly story-teling event about the unique and rich history of the community that was home to industry giants, famous musicians and important political leaders such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Golda Meir. This event, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Hospital/Glasser Auditorium, 2732 W. 15th Place, will feature several acccomplished women in fields ranging from business to education. NLSC will also bury a time capsule, paint viaducts and create a gateway, among many planned activities thoughout the year to celebrate 150 years of community investment. What does a successful community look like? How can we rebuild those communities that are struggling? Today we hear the sounds of success, so that we may duplicate this achievement across the USA.
