Bucking a national trend to curtail access to abortions, Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Wednesday June 12th signed a bill that he said will protect women’s reproductive health care rights should Roe v. Wade (the Supreme Court case allowing abortion) be overturned. Illinois legislators in support of the bill and a number of pro-choice activist groups gathered to celebrate the signing. But others protested the Governor’s actions, saying that the new law is nothing to celebrate, but rather the legislators of Illinois should be ashamed for pushing abortion. Today we’ll talk to Jax West, President of Friends Who March, a “pro-choice” group and Ann Scheidler, Vice President ofPro-Life Action League, a “pro-life” group. We’ll examine the two perspectives on this very controversial issue of abortion.
