Many Urban communities are literally food deserts - no grocery stores with fresh fruits and vegetables for miles. The Fernwood Community Outreach Church, headed by Rev. Al Sampson, has created a remedy for that problem with the Black Farmers Market. Farmers drive up to Chicago from Arkansas bringing fresh fruits and vegetables to sell in an open market place in the urban community. Friday, August 16, the Black Farmers market will sell fresh produce at the corner of 101st and Wallace, in Chicago, across the street from Fernwood Community Outreach Church, from 8am til 12 noon.
