Repairing Family Relationships: Is The Ex Wife Really Gone?

Gloria has been with David for five years. He finally asked her to marry him but she has one major concern: his ex wife Brenda. Brenda is still “good friends” with David. They are still on the same bowling team, they still borrow each other’s cars, they still both attend family events when invited by their grown son and daughter. They have been divorced for seven years but many of their old friends seem to think they are still married, even though Gloria has tried her best to make it clear when she is out with Davidthat SHE is the woman in David’s life now. Brenda is very friendly to Gloria, so Gloria feels silly expressing her resentment to David about his close friendship with his ex wife. Should she ask him to distance himself from his ex, or should she just accept their friendship?
