Raymond is uncertain as to whether he should marry Latrice, whose husband died a sudden violent death over a year ago and whose two teenage daughters seem to still be traumatized by the loss. He and Latrice began seeing each other six months after his passing. The daughters were very angry that their mother seemed to have started a new relationship so soon after the loss of their father. Latrice revealed to Raymond that although she was happy in her marriage, she was ready to move on with her life, she was still young and vibrant, in her early forties, and she felt that Raymond was someone she could have a harmonious relationship with. But Raymond said her daughters are very cold and distant to him, whereas his previous girlfriend's son, in his twenties, had accepted him right away and they had even gone to ball games together. Raymond is in his fifties, divorced, has three grown children and wants to experience family life again. Does the cold hostility of Latrice's daughters make her unfit as a future spouse? Or should he be patient and give her daughters time to deal with their grief?
