We have land and we can grow food! The urban environment has caused many of us with roots in the rural south to forget the basics of survival - how to grow fruits and vegetables in the soil where we live. Today Cara Boyd, Program Director for the National Black Farmers Association shares some tips and strategies on growing food as we prepare to kick off the project PANDEMIC Farms, an urban food growing program to combat hunger. PANDEMIC stands for Produce Agricultural Nourishment, Develop Economies, Make Independent Communities. As we teach urban bred youth and adults how to grow food, Cara Boyd shares some of the challenges that farmers face - weather, animals, insects - and how to overcome those challenges in order to produce healthy crops for consumption. Also joining us is Saleem AbdulMussawwir head of Green Oasis who will be working in conjuction with The Female Solution radio show hosts and Beacon Light Ministries in the teaching of the science of growing food.
