Controlling Women's Sexuality: Can Men Forgive Infidelity?

The Hollywood gossip circles, which tends to spread to the general society, has been abuzz with the revealing Red Table Talk show produced on YouTube by actor Jada Pinkett Smith in which she and her husband actor Will Smith discussed intimate details of their marriage and the admission of infidelity. This show had one of the highest ratings ever on YouTube and the responses apparently struck another nerve in our culture. What is it about women's sexuality that has been historically something men have sought to control, suppress, condemn and punish if engaged in with someone other than a lawful spouse? Everyone is aware of the famous story recorded in the Bible about the encounter with Jesus and the woman that a crowd was about to stone to death for adultery. Ultimately, no one threw anything at her because when Jesus reportedly said, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone," everyone had to face the truth about themselves. But women are still being punished for "adultery" and in the scriptures women are castigated for "lewdness." Dare we question the authority of "Scriptures" that condemn the sexuality of women - but not men? Today we take a serious look at the history of controlling women's sexuality. Is it really from God? Or another discriminatory attitude - like racism - we need to abolish?
