Civil Rights Iconic Leader Congressman John Lewis
On July 17th, the world lost one of its finest when John Lewis went on to his reward. John Lewis was an American Hero like no other. He ascended as our young leader in the Civil Rights Movement into a hero for all – all races, all ages, and all creeds have stood on the broad, strong shoulders of this man for decades. As a young man, John Lewis made history at lunch counters, on buses, on a bridge, at the ends of sticks, fire hoses and cattle prods. His protests and career in public service transformed American history into a story of inclusion, equality, and opportunity. He did this by showing up, and by speaking out – courageously and simply. In so doing, John Lewis came to embody the best of who we are; an unrivaled example of leadership and fearlessness to be emulated and revered for as long as our history will be told.
