Illinois lawmakers have an opportunity to outlaw bullying and harrassment, giving children legal support when they encounter apparent mistreatment based what others may perceive as differences. Known as the Cross Cultural Mediation Bill, HB1157 recently passed in the Illinois Education Committee unanimously and is soon to be put before the Illinois General Assembly for a vote. this is legislation that could be the catalyst for national attention and new laws to protect youth and adults from bullying behavior based on race, ethnicity, religion, culture, language or any other reason causing a person to be singled out and treated badly. Are we finally ready to make mean treatment of others against the law? Our guests today from the Illinois Muslim Civic Coalition discuss the work being done to help HB1157 and SB673 become law. Representive Edgar Gonzales and Senator Jackie Collins will introduce the legislation to the floor of the General Assembly. Attorney Maaria Mozaffar, Director of Advocacy and Policy for the Illinois Muslim Civic Coalition.
