Our bodies go through puberty around 13 or 14 years old, but the society we live in insists that we extend adolescence for another 4 or 8 years, creating an artificial clock based on preparing for a job or career. What if by 8th grade graduation, a child had learned how to grow food, how to sew clothing, and how to construct a house? What if a child was taught skills to prepare them for marriage, childbirth and bparenting so that by the time they graduated from 8th grade they were ready to start a family? This was the time families were started centuries ago. Our body clocks have not changed, which is why girls get pregnant at 15, boys become fathers at 16, and rather than us empower them with life skills, we force them to memorize useless information so that by the time they physically mature at 8th grade, they know nothing about adulthood. We create broken impoverished famiies by following an artificial clock that delays adult education. What if created a school curriculum that prepared our children to be self sustaining adults at the time their bodies have passed puberty?
