Men have hesitated to get married and start a family, even though many are having sex and fathering children, who often end up being taken care of by the mother and her family or the State welfare system. Many black men express frustration at being cut out of legal, respectable economic opportunities and observe that lack of financial stability is a big deterrent to marriage. What can older, established men and the society in general do to help young ,en get on their feet and become responsible men in the homes of wives and children?
