Fear of strangers. That's the real issue behind the protests of immigrants pouring into American cities, whether they are war refugees escaping terrorism or undocumented workers fleeing poverty. The influx of families, single men and women, mothers with children, teenagers and even elderly have created a daunting challenge for city leaders. Today we look at ways to address the fear of strangers, the sharing of resources, the learning of languages in order to communicate, the dispelling of fear inducing stereotypes and the best ways to address real dangers presented by people who, in their own fear of being deprived of necessities, choose to steal and take things by force from others as a means of survival. We'll discuss a proposal in the City of Chicago to house immigrants in tents and vacant buildings across the city. Then we'll take a look at the upcoming global peace summit in Seoul, South Korea, where citizens of nations throughout the world are seeking to lay a foundation for peaceful interaction between diverse populations.
