Do you know the history and significance of Juneteenth?

June 19th is also known as  Juneteenth which is a day to recognize the end of slavery and to celebrate the culture and achievements of Africian- Americans.   It  became a state holiday in Texas in 1980, and now the celebration has reach other states as well as many countries outside the United States.

Today's interview is with  La Shawn K. Ford.   Mr. Ford received  his B.S in Education from Loyola University in Chicago and became a history teacher and basketball coach for the Chicago Public Schools. He later received his broker license and started a career as a Real Estate entrepreneur and founder of the Ford Desired Reality, Inc.and also became a member of  the Chicago and National Association of  Realtors.

In 2007 La Shawn Ford was elected State Representative for the 8th District , and todays interview  he will  introduce and inform  us about his promotion of the African-American Rapid Relief Task Force. One of the concerns politicians are proposing is to have  Governor Pritzker to lower flags statewide on Juneteenth which they feel would be a step towards addressing the inequities and injustices against the Black community.
