Lukumi Drummer: Ronnie Gennaro Severino

Ronnie has been a musician all his life; he started on the guitar at age 5 and graduated from the Musicians Institute in California at 19 years old. He soon began playing in a rock fusion band throughout his twenties until he heard the “Bata" . His Mom & cousin had just done Santo and were being introduced to the drum. It was Puntilla and Felix Sanabria who played the caja and segundo that night, and Emilio Barreto was the Akpon. It changed his life, and he has been playing the bata and singing ever since. He’s studied and has learned from some of the greatest drummers in the world and really wants to continue to study. Ronnie is searching for drummers who are drawn to the religion, as well as the drum, and everything that goes with that. Ronnie loves teaching, and Ronnie teaches the Bata & Cantos Lucumi as well as other ritual forms such as Bembe , Guiro , Ijesa and Arara.
