Description: On September 30, 1919 a meeting in a Church in Elaine in rural Phillips county Arkansas to discuss forming a union to fight for fair payment for the honest and hard work of Black sharecroppers was interrupted with gun fire from a group of white agitators. The Black guards at the church fired back killing a white man. This resulted in a massacre of Black people of Elaine.
