What influences society's view of adoption and how does that influence adoptive families?

Adoption isn’t taboo, and we need to celebrate it, just like you would the news of a pregnancy.  Share in the joy!   Maybe plan a “Sip & See” after the adoption is finalized?

Remember when somone is sharing their exciting news of choosing to adopt:

1. Be mindful of thestories you tell…
2. Hold off on a summerization of "Lifetime-type" movies.
3. Its not the time to tell the stories of adoption disruptions of others.  (Additionally, you may not have the whole story.)
4. Remember that your words matter.  Use adoption- friendly word chpices and be mindful of what you say and the way in which you say it.
5. Keep in mind that additionally, your or others' reposnses may be influenced by various types of Influences, such as

• Social Media
• Education Level
• Personal Experience
• Generational Influence
• Social Influence

If you offer your congratulations and support, that will mean the world to the person(s) adopting.  If you have questions, maybe hold off for a bit until the news is shared with everyone intended.  Adoption support is needed, and the importance and value of adoption matters.
