There are a multitude of reasons that birth mothers choose adoption.  Here are twenty of the reasons...

  1.  Too young- teen mom
  2. Not ready to be a parent
  3. In financial distress
  4. Desire for baby to have the best life possible
  5. Struggling with addiction
  6. Pregnancy is a result of rape or incest
  7. No support – single parent maybe, no family?
  8. Life is presently unstable: unemployed/homeless
  9. Wanting different things out of life:  College, Demanding Job etc…
  10. Family is not in agreement with you parenting a baby
  11. Broken up with the birth father
  12. CPS/DCS- state involvement with other children
  13. Don't believe in abortion- religious
  14. Significant/severe health issues
  15. Currently in a  Domestic Violent situation
  16. Don't have the  time/resources/patience for another child
  17. Desire for your child raised in a two parent family
  18. The baby will have special needs and you are unable to care for your baby
  19. Adoption is free for BMs and they may be able to receive assistance
  20. The belief in adoption, maybe experienced adoption before
