Kam was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago and has been singing since the tender age of three years old. Her gift was passed from her mother, who was also a singer. By the age of five, Kam was singing songs by Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Dionne Warwick and as she grew up, was a part of many different youth choirs. Kam attended grammar school at Edgar Allan Poe Classical School where her choir teacher was a huge influence and inspiration. His guidance pushed her towards auditioning for the All-City Youth Chorus group at Whitney Young High School where she excelled. She enrolled in Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep, as well as the Merit School of Music located in downtown Chicago. She practiced Musical Theatre, Vocal Performance, and Dance under the direction of Ms. Melba Wright who became a valuable mentor to her. Kam continues to incorporate the lessons she’s learned from Ms. Wright to this day.
