Choco Orta is considered by some as Celia Cruz's natural successor. As a singer, Choco has performed with the orchestras of Nacho Sanabria, Waldo Borres and Julio “Gunda” Merced, et al. She has recorded several albums including Reina del Sabor and Sentimiento y Sabor. In the past few years, Choco has been singing all over Puerto Rico, France, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Chicago, Tampa (as Puerto Rican Cultural Ambassador), Miami, and NYC. An accomplished actress, Orta has appeared in plays and films. Her feature films include Bala perdida; Assassins and A Show of Force. Choco has performed alongside numerous Masters of Salsa including Celia Cruz, Tito Puente and India. Ms. Orta will talk to Deardra Shuler about being part of Jimmy Delgado's production of Legends of Salsa Three: Remembering Celia, Lupe and Graciela on Saturday, April 24, at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts in the Bronx.
