Host Deardra Shuler talks with francophone playwright and novelist Koffi Kwahule and his Canadian translator (who is herself a playwright), Chantal Bilodeau about Kwahule's play "Bintou" featured at the Movement Theatre Company, located at 2355 Frederick Douglass Boulevard, NYC. BINTOU tells the story of a 13-year old French speaking African immigrant named Bintou who uses her sexuality to control those around her. Bintou’s family decides to use a West African tradition to stop Bintou's behavior which results in a tragic end. The show explores sexuality, tradition and rites of passage as well as female genital mutilation. For info go online at www.themovementtheatre company.org.
