Topically Yours - Actress Kim Brockington

Host Deardra Shuler talks with actress Kim Brockington about her portrayal of Zora Neale Hurston for Black History month. The show, presented by the National Black Touring Circuit's Black History Month Play Festival featured in New York City will showcase at the Castillo Theatre, located at 543 West 42nd Street on February 10–12. Written by Laurence Holder, and directed by Wynn Handman, the Zora Neale Hurston performance is part of the Festival's exploration of historic African American figures such as A. Philip Randolph, Adam Clayton Powell, and Congresswoman Barbara Jordan in theaters throughout New York City from February 3–26. The Zora Neale Hurston play is a dramatic biography that examines the life of this famous writer/anthropologist of the Harlem Renaissance.

The play follows Hurston from the all Black town of Eatonville, Florida to becoming the first Black graduate from Barnard College in New York City and ultimately into her personal journey as a writer, exploring Black folklore and anthropology. 

Kim Brockington's credits include “Guiding Light,” “The West Wing” and “Law & Order.” She starred as Hurston in the acclaimed PBS “American Masters” special. She is a graduate of The American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
