Josephine Baker was an American-born French dancer, singer, actress, civil rights activist and spy for the French Resistance during World War II. She was later awarded the French Croix de Guerre and the Medal of the French Resistance with Rosette. President Charles de Gaulle named her Chevalier of the Legion of Honor.
