Topically Yours - Sinkholes. - Prof. Robert Brinkmann

There are many giant sinkholes appearing across the nation, NJ, PA, Arizona and particularly in Florida.  They are appearing in Egypt, Mexico, Venezula, Russia and Australia. China is seeing increasing numbers of sinkholes, some as large and deep as caverns. Topically Yours host, Deardra Shuler, invites Prof. Robert Brinkmann to discuss this increasing sinkhole occurrence. He is the Director of Sustainability Studies at Hofstra University and the Director of Sustainability Research at the National Center for Suburban Studies.  Brinkmann is a Professor in the Department of Geology, Environment and Sustainability at Hofstra. In 1979, he entered the Geology Program at the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh.

Mr. Brinkmann attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee earning an MS in Geology in 1986 and a Ph.D. in Geography in 1989.  In 1990, Brinkmann became a Professor at the University of South Florida where he continued his research on sinkholes, environmental pollution and urban sustainability.  

Now at Hofstra University, he has authored numerous articles, chapters, and books.  He is Assoc. Editor for the Journal of Cave and Karst Studies. His new book, Florida Sinkholes:  Science and Policy will be published this year and is available from the University of Press of Florida.
