Deardra Shuler will talk with Freestyle artists Rob Base and Cynthia Todino about their upcoming Forever Freestyle 11 concert at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts in the Bronx on Saturday, March 4th at 8pm. They will appear with fellow freestyle artists such as TKA/K7, Judy Torres,  Noel, Coro, Sa-Fire, Corina, Lydia Lee Love, Soave, etc.  Base, a hip-hop rapper from Harlem in New York City, was born in 1967.  His 1988 multi-platinum breakout single “It Takes Two” was recorded withDJ E-Z Rock and uses multiple samples from the James Brown/Lyn Collins song “Think (About It).” As a duo, their second hit song “Joy and Pain” also proved to be a smash the following year. Going solo in 1989, Base released “Turn It Out (Go Base)” which went Gold on the hit dance charts. In 2008, “It Takes Two” was ranked number 37 on VH1’s 100 greatest songs of hip-hop.

Dance/freestyle artist Cynthia began her career in 1987, auditioning at MicMac Records. Shortly thereafter, she was signed to a five year contract. In the ensuing period, Cynthia issued a pair of albums -- a self titled debut which featured such singles as "Change on Me," "Endless Night," and "Thief of Hearts," as well as Cynthia II, which spawned the singles "Love Me Tonight," and a duet with Johnny O, "Dream Boy/Dream Girl." 1995 saw the release of The Remixes, which contained reworkings of her best-known tracks.
