If I Can't Have It, Neither Can You

Crab mentality, describes a way of thinking best described by the phrase "if I can't have it, neither can you." The metaphor refers to a pot of crabs. Individually, the crabs could easily escape from the pot, but instead, they grab at each other in a useless competition which prevents any from escaping and ensures their collective demise.  The analogy in human behavior is that members of a group will attempt to "pull down" (negate or diminish the importance of) any member who achieves success beyond the others, out of envy, conspiracy or competitive feelings.  Often this is applied to people in an impoverished or disadvantaged community where one person is starting to get ahead. The collective community becomes jealous or filled with a sense of self-loathing, so they find a way to pull that person back down to the community's level. We are socially engineered to want more and have a desire to GET IT before anyone else does. It appears that we feel as if there is not enough of IT to go around but I assure you that there is enough of IT for everyone.  Think about this:  If McDonald’s and Burger King; KFC and Popeye’s can exist and thrive all while having multiple locations in the same area, then so can we.   Socially we would benefit more if we wanted the same success for others as we do for our self, but because we have allowed the world to train our mind and diminish our thoughts and integrity, we have lost the concept of… I am my brother’s keeper, It takes a village to raise a child and Love your neighbor as you love yourself.  Tune in Monday October 1 at 8 PM CST.  Listen on line by selecting the link below or call in at 818-691-7406
