What is lymphedema? (lim-fa-dee-ma) Lymphedema is a chronic swelling (edema) caused by a buildup of fluid (lymph) that occurs when the lymphatic system is either faulty or damaged. There is no cure for lymphedema, but it can be effectively treated.
