Gandhi said this about Jesus, "What, then, does Jesus mean to me? To me, he was one of the greatest teachers humanity has ever had. To his believers, he was God’s only begotten Son. Could the fact that I do or do not accept this belief make Jesus have any more or less influence in my life? Is all the grandeur of his teaching and of his doctrine to be forbidden to me? I cannot believe so.

To me, it implies a spiritual birth. My interpretation, in other words, is that in Jesus’ own life is the key of his nearness to God; that he expressed, as no other could, the spirit and will of God. It is in this sense that I see him and recognize him as the Son of God."

Jesus was not a political reformer. He did not come to reorganize the world; even if he had done this, it would have been applicable o...nly to his day and generation. Nevertheless, he did show man the best way of living, and no generation is exempt from the labor of discovering how best to adapt Jesus' life to its own problems.

Can we unravel Jesus his teachings from 2,000 years of religious doctrine? Can we resurrect Jesus from his burial tomb amidst the theological traditions and the religious dogmas of twenty centuries? Jesus must be recovered from the tomb of traditional theology and be presented anew as the living Christ to the church that bears his name, and to all other religions! The time is ripe to look afresh at his amazing life and teachings.
