September 11, 2001 changed many lives with hijacked planes hitting the World Trade Center. In the past nine years the media has given the world images of lives lost: Firemen, Police Officers, and Priests. What we have NOT seen are the many African American people killed who were NOT civil Service workers, but the cooks and office cleaners, security and many of the other non-executive workers. Are these people invisible? No – their families are still surviving; still fighting for compensation and RESPESENTATION!!! The media has portrayed September 11, 2001 to be a crime against WHITES only: where are the memorials for the Latinos and blacks who were killed? Where are the numerous magazines write ups, the talk show appearances, WHERE ARE THE MEMORIALS??? Sadly, a few blocks away is the Slave Burial Ground – which is now a historical landmark. Please join Denise Bolds, MSW author of Raising Princes to be Kings: A Single Black Mother’ s Guide to Raising Her Black Son and special guest Kimberly Trimingham, an African American wife and mother three children as Kimberly talks about 9/11 and its impact as a black widow and mother. Do you know of any black or Latino killed in 9/11? Do you know exactly how many people of color were killed? Do you know any talk show, news or magazine that highlighted these people or their families? GET READY TO BE EMPOWERED!!!
