Wolfen is one of my favorite horror movies. Mistakenly considered one of three werewolf movies released in 1981- (the others being The Howling and American Werewlf in London) it is a much more nuanced film.
The only feature film directed by Michael Wadleigh (Woodstock)- the film stars Albert Finney (Miller's Crossing, Erin Brokovich), Diane Venora (Heat), Gregory Hines (White Nights, Running Scared), Tom Noonan (Manhunter), Edward James Olmos (Zoot Suit, BSG reboot) and co-stars character actor Dick O'Neill (Prizzi's Honor).
If you've never seen Wolfen- get ready for a film that's a murder mystery, an American Indian folk horror, and a satiric screed against gentrification. And on top of that, Wolfen is not only scary, but gorgeous to watch and with a hefty dose of black humor. Check it out.
