Featuring Howard Gleckman, Author of Caring for Our Parents & Resident Fellow at the Urban Institute

Co-Founder of eCareDiary Susan Baida, will interview Howard Gleckman, author of Caring for Our Parents.

A caregiver himself, helping both his father and father-in-law, Howard will share his personal experience and professional expertise on important issues in the eldercare world, such as how elder care is changing. He will also cover the 5 elements of eldercare law: the CLASS Act, efforts to improve care coordination, incentives for states to expand their home and community-based care under Medicaid, incentives to encourage health professional to specialize in geriatrics, and major reductions in Medicaid and Medicaid for nursing homes.

Mr. Gleckman is a Resident Fellow at the Urban Institute and editor of the Tax Policy Center's blog, TaxVox. He writes a column on long-term care issues for Kaiser Health News. He is also a senior advisor to Caring from a Distance, a non-profit organization that provides Web-based and telephone assistance to long-distance caregivers; a volunteer at the Jewish Council for the Aging of Greater Washington; and is co-chair of the Medical Quality Committee at Suburban Hospital and a member of the hospital's Board of Trustees.

A veteran journalist, Mr. Gleckman was senior correspondent in the Washington bureau of Business Week, where he covered health and elder care. He was a 2003 National Magazine Award finalist for a series of Business Week articles entitled The Coming Revolution in Health Care.

He began the research for Caring for Our Parents as a 2006-2007 Media Fellow at the Kaiser Family Foundation, and was a 2006-2008 Visiting Fellow at the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College.

He has appeared on CNN, CNBC, C-Span, NPR, and the BBC, and been a guest on the Diane Rehm Show, To the Point, Here and Now, and Marketplace. He has spoken to The National Council on Aging and the American Society on Aging, and the National Academy of Elder Care Attorneys.
