On this first day of May, 2020, we unveil a new and ambitiouos initiative to take power from the elites and return it to the workers and members of ATU Local 241 and Local 308: The Worker's Contract. This new project is based on an earlier project called the Unofficial Interactive Contract Proposal Spreadsheet.

For too long, the union workers at the CTA have entrusted the creation of Collective Bargaining Agreements to our elected leaders. These "Contracts" as they are called have been created by everyone but the workers. Lawyers, upper management, city and state politicians have dictated the limits and we have backed very few of our demands with action.

We must prepare for the possible total collapse of our economy and join the wave of radical change within the labor movement. The "Contract" is the heart of a labor union. We may not be able to prevent our elected leaders from ceding our power to the mayor and governor. But we can certainly prevent and organize against a concessionary Contract and write our own.

In a press conference on Thursday, April 30, 2020, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was asked by a reporter if she supported doing what the MTA in New York plans to do with their public transportation system. She refused to support doing such an initiative.

Listen for yourself. If you are angry about her words, organize public action to send her a message.
