Birth records began to be recorded officially by the state of South Carolina in 1915. Locating a birth record for your African American ancestor before 1915 can be very challenging, however, this show will help you identify records to use as a substitute. Some counties recorded births, and you can learn more about them at FamilySearch Wiki: South Carolina Vital Records (wiki.familysearch.org)
