About The Author:
BIG ROB is an urban-fiction writer and non-fiction story-teller from the then gritty Wicker Park/Humboldt Park neighborhoods in Chicago. Most of his child-hood friends fell into a life of drugs, gangs, and crime. Many of them met an untimely demise and some of them were put behind bars for life. He credits his escape from a similar fate to the strong iron-fist rule of his father and the gentle hand of his mother. He chose to pursue a career in law enforcement to attempt to reach out to the teens in his community and to mentor inmates that possibly weren't facing too much time and attempt to steer them in the right direction. The urban jungle he grew up in and what he endured with his friends in the hood was far more humane than what he absorbed as an officer of the law. In the state pen and county jail between the age of 19 - 26 BIG ROB witnessed horrific acts by human beings that most only see in the movies. The level of violence and indifference for human life was just simply unGodly. Everyday was a struggle for survival, not just for the inmates but the officers as well. He knew he needed a change to save his own soul. In the years after his "retirement" it was difficult for him to let go of the temper, distrust and aggressive nature that he developed. He turned to the tranquil breezes of Puerto Rico, boxing, and writing as an escape. He wrote essays and short stories of the things he had gone through behind the walls and razor-wire. Upon compiling many stories he realized that he probably had good material to write novels.
